Phlebotomy Technicians work directly with patients; they are the human face of the laboratory. As a Phlebotomy Technician, you’ll be responsible for drawing, processing and transporting quality blood samples to produce accurate laboratory results. Study at BAMA Institute and become a vital member of a healthcare team.
Since 2004, BAMA Institute has been providing a Phlebotomy Certification program approved by the Department of Health-Laboratory Field Services. These employers send their staff for training and certification in Phlebotomy to BAMA Institute because they trust the quality of our program:
San Francisco Department of Health
One Medical Group
Kaiser Emergency Room (Marin County)
Santa Clara Department of Public Health
AIDS Foundation etc.
We believe there shouldn’t be a shortcut to working in the healthcare field. Errors during sample collection can dramatically affect the result of the laboratory analysis of the blood sample and can lead to wrong diagnosis. We will train you to a proficiency level where hospitals and clinics (and their patients) can trust you will step into your first job and be ready to provide quality sample collection.
Though you don’t need nine months of instruction to become a skilled phlebotomist, you do need sufficient training. Some schools may offer programs as short as three days. The Department of Health-Laboratory Field Services requires a minimum 40-hour program, not including breaks, exams and labs. Anything shorter than 60 hours though is dangerously inadequate and will not offer the appropriate education to confidently and successfully enter the field.
We partner with top Bay Area medical employers for externships (residencies), campus visits, and hiring events.

We are NOT a national chain with no connections to the local job market. BAMA Institute is a family-owned business and a certified women-owned and operated enterprise, building strong and productive partnerships with local employers.
As part of the program, we provide clinical hours (externship) at labs and facilities throughout the Bay Area such as:
San Francisco General Hospital
San Francisco Department of Public Health Clinics
One Medical Group
California Pacific Medical Center
UCSF Medical Center
San Mateo County General Hospital
Palo Alto Medical Foundation
Regional Medical Center
At BAMA Institute, we believe in learning from each other as well as giving instruction. There are students from many backgrounds at BAMA Institute: single moms, career changers, recent high school graduates, veterans, the unemployed and under-employed. Some want to enhance their education background or upgrade their skills, some need to retrain, others wish to support their family, or get off financial assistance. Each student has a different story to tell, and all are welcomed at BAMA Institute.
