Bay Area Medical Academy Awarded Grant to Offer Free Medical Assisting Training to Redwood City Residents

Bay Area Medical Academy (BAMA) is proud to announce that we have been awarded a Community Development Block Grant to provide a free* medical assisting with phlebotomy and EKG class to twenty qualifying residents of Redwood City. This exciting opportunity aims to empower individuals by offering them the skills and certification needed to begin a rewarding career in healthcare.

Medical assistants play a vital role in healthcare settings, providing both clinical and administrative support. With a growing demand for healthcare professionals, this program comes at a crucial time, especially for Bay Area residents seeking stable, well-paying job opportunities in the medical field.

This grant-funded training highlights BAMA’s commitment to supporting Bay Area communities and expanding access to quality healthcare education.

Participants will receive hands-on training from BAMA’s experienced instructors, preparing them for various roles in hospitals, clinics, and private practices. With a comprehensive curriculum, the class is designed to provide the entry level student with a solid foundation in clinical and administrative duties to prepare for a successful entry into the medical field. 

On completing the class, students will receive three national certifications:

  • National Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Certified EKG Technician, CET.
  • California Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT-1) / National Certified Phlebotomy Technician.

Qualifying criteria for applicants are that they:

  • Be a Redwood City resident.
  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Be low to moderate income.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED (NB: those people with a completed bachelor’s degree or higher education do not qualify).
  • Have at least one full course vaccination for COVID-19.

The start date for the class is March 10th, 2025 and Redwood City residents interested in applying for the class are advised to book an online appointment with our admissions team for more details on eligibility and enrollment.
