Curriculum for Our Medical Assistant School in San Francisco

An aerial view of San Francisco

Our San Francisco location holds a special place in our hearts, marking the beginning of Bay Area Medical Academy’s journey. Founded as a community initiative in 2004 by Simonida Cvejic, our first location was established in response to the pressing demand for healthcare professionals within the local community. This founding philosophy remains at the heart of our institution. We turn out competent, confident medical assistants who provide patients in San Francisco with compassionate, expert care.

We offer a 9-month, 900-hour intensive program at our medical assistant school in San Francisco, preparing students for three highly valuable certifications

  • National Certified Medical Assistant
  • Certified EKG Technician, CET
  • California Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT-1) / National Certified Phlebotomy Technician

A big part of obtaining those certifications (and future employment) is your externship. This is an opportunity to put your skills to practical use. We guarantee externships of up to 200 hours for our students so you can get a leg up on the competition. Some of the San Francisco healthcare providers we work with include:

It’s not easy to become or remain an accredited institution. The rules and regulations are strict, precise and designed to protect students. Here are some of the benefits:

  • A reliable indicator of quality

  • Approved program of study

  • Qualified instructors

  • Recognition by employers nationwide

What our graduates say

UCSF Medical Center and the Bay Area Medical Academy (BAMA) share a passion for empowering healthcare professionals to be excellent providers of patient care services. Our common vision of patient-centered medicine has yielded a close collaboration between institutions on curriculum development, externship opportunities, and community outreach. UCSF recognizes BAMA certifications as highly competitive evidence of training in Medical Assisting and we have a great partnership with BAMA’s career services team. We look forward to interviewing BAMA graduates for job openings during our regular employer spotlights and regularly place several BAMA graduates in roles such as Medical or Hospital Assistant in departments such as Primary Care, Family Medicine, and Positive Care 360 practices.
