UCSF in Partnership With Bay Area Medical Academy Presents Free* Medical Assisting With Phlebotomy and EKG Training

The Program

The Medical Assisting with Phlebotomy and EKG Program is intended to provide the entry level student with a solid foundation in clinical and administrative duties to prepare for a successful entry into the medical field. The program consists of three components: administrative skills training, clinical skills training, and a clinical externship. The program is divided into eight learning units called modules. The first seven modules are classroom modules taught in hybrid mode. Following the successful completion of the first seven modules, students participate in a 200-240 hour clinical externship.

Schedule

Participants will attend five modules conducted in hybrid mode every day for five hours. Hybrid mode will consist of three days in-person and two days on Zoom.

Participants who successfully complete the first five modules will be guaranteed an interview for an MA position with a UCSF recruiter and, upon hire, will move into the evening schedule for the remaining two modules.

At the completion of all seven modules, UCSF will provide clinical externship which will be four months (MA Academy).

Graduates of the program will:

  • Demonstrate compassion and respect for the human dignity and rights of all individuals.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform clinical assisting and laboratory procedures.
  • Utilize critical thinking and decision-making skills when providing clinical and administrative services in healthcare settings.
  • Apply legal concepts to the medical practice.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, co-workers, and providers.
  • Participate in professional activities and continuing education.
  • Potential entry-level job titles include Medical Office Assistant/Hospital Assistant (31-9092), EKG Technician (29-2031), Medical Receptionist (43-6013,) Phlebotomist (31-9097), and Health Support Workers-All Other (31-9099)*.

Qualifying Criteria

Participants for the program must be:

  • A San Francisco resident
  • Have at least a high school diploma or GED
  • *Although the program is free, students will be required to complete FAFSA

Enrollment Date & Class Start

Participants must be enrolled by May 31st, 2024 for a class start date of June 10th, 2024.
