Healthcare is undergoing a massive expansion, rising along with the area’s growing population. Take, for example, the California Pacific Medical Center on Van Ness Avenue and Geary Street, which is currently San Francisco’s largest construction project.

What can this mean for you?

Well, if you’re considering going back to school as an adult learner, you may want to take advantage of the healthcare industry boom, and a need for new healthcare workers, and consider healthcare training.

Working in the Bay Area Healthcare Industry

You could end up working at any of these well-known healthcare employers that are expanding their patient reach throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente is the number one employer in the entire San Francisco Bay Area, employing over 40,000 employees. Google, Yahoo, and Twitter don’t even come close. Additionally, Kaiser Permanente employs 177,000 people nationwide. This means if Kaiser employees formed their own city it would be the same size of Hayward or Sunnyvale. This healthcare employer also recently opened a $200M Mission Bay Medical Office in Oakland.

UCSF

Another top employer in the San Francisco Bay Area is the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). The UCSF Medical Center is a huge teaching hospital with medical centers throughout San Francisco, including at Parnassus Heights and Mount Zion, and a new 43-acre campus at Mission Bay. UCSF was also ranked in the top 10 of US News and World Report’s 2016-2017 Best Hospitals Honor Roll and Overview.

Sutter Health CPMC

A Sutter Health affiliate, California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) is one of the largest private, not-for-profit, academic medical centers in California. It’s also the 25th largest employer in the San Francisco Bay Area. Construction on CPMC’s Pacific Medical Center, a 274-bed hospital at Geary and Van Ness, is expected to be completed in 2018, and is talked about as being a hospital that will be Sutter Health’s ‘jewel in the crown.’

Stanford Health Care

Further evidence of the  healthcare industry booming across the San Francisco Bay Area is Stanford Health Care’s recently opened outpatient facility in Emeryville. It’s Stanford’s first medical facility in the East Bay, and they expect 40,000 clinic visits their first year. Not only that, but this healthcare employer is planning to open further new facilities in San Jose, Redwood City, and Burlingame.

San Francisco General Hospital and San Francisco Department of Public Health

The San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is another large employer in the San Francisco Bay Area maintaining a long roster of health clinics. This department includes San Francisco General Hospital in the Mission neighborhood, with some 5,000 employees. Also notably, San Francisco has had famous social service programs in place for decades, and prides itself on helping those in need. With the city maintaining and co-funding many clinics, hospitals, and treatment centers, working for them can be a great first step for a new healthcare worker.

Healthcare Job Opportunity All Around You
