Phlebotomist Certification

Phlebotomy CertificationIf you want to work as a licensed Phlebotomist in the state of California, you will need to obtain phlebotomy certification, which is the California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I certificate issued by the California Department of Public Health – Laboratory Field Services Division.

If you have no healthcare or little phlebotomy work experience, there are clear steps you can follow to get phlebotomist certification and start a phlebotomy career in the state of California.

The Road to Phlebotomist Certification

If you have no healthcare work experience or have less that 40-hours of phlebotomy work experience, you must complete:

  • 40-hours of phlebotomy training from a phlebotomy program accredited by the California Department of Public Health.
  • 40-hours of phlebotomy practice in a clinical setting in a phlebotomy training program approved by the California Department of Public Health.

Bay Area Medical Academy Helps You with Phlebotomist Certification

Bay Area Medical Academy’s Phlebotomy Technician Course (that includes classroom and clinical training) prepares you for two certifications:

  • National Certification, Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT)

Bay Area Medical Academy is located at an approved NCPT testing site. The school schedules National exams 2-weeks after completing the course. National exams are only held on weekends at the Bay Area Medical Academy San Francisco Campus.

  • California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I certificate (CPT-1 license)

Bay Area Medical Academy also provides free assistance to students with the application process for obtaining California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I certificate.

Renewing Phlebotomist Certification

Once you have your California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I certificate, you must keep your phlebotomist certification current.

You must renew your California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I certificate every two years.
